Mahbubey Alam was born on 17 February 1949 in the Village of Mouchhamandra, Upazila- Lauhajang, District- Munshiganj, Bangladesh. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Political Science and Masters of Arts in Public Administration from the University of Dhaka in the year 1968 & 1969 respectively. He had his LL.B degree from the same University in 1972. He was enrolled as an Advocate with Bangladesh Bar Council in 1973 and subsequently was awarded permission to practice in the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh in January, 1975. In due course he became members of the Dhaka Bar Association and Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association. He got himself enrolled as an Advocate of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh in 1980. As a mark of recognition to his outstanding professional performance, he was enrolled as a ‘Senior Advocate’ of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh in 1998. Mahbubey Alam obtained diploma in Constitutional Law and Parliamentary Institutions & Procedure in 1979 from the prestigious Institute of Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies, New Delhi, India. He held the office of the Additional Attorney General for Bangladesh from November 15, 1998 to October 4, 2001. He served as the elected Secretary for the term 1993-1994 and President for the term 2005-2006 of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association. He also served as the elected Member of the Bangladesh Bar Council for the term 2004-2007. He has been holding the highest Constitutional law office of the Country i.e. Attorney General for Bangladesh since January 13, 2009. He is also holding the office of the Chairman of Bangladesh Bar Council. Mahbubey Alam is a widely traveled person. He attended many important International seminars, symposium and conferences on law in India, Srilanka, France, USA, Egypt, United Kingdom, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea etc. In home he also attended many International Seminars and Symposium and represented the lawyers’ community of the country. Mahbubey Alam conducted a good numbers of very important cases before the Supreme Court of Bangladesh on behalf of the Government/State including the case involving brutal killing of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Constitution 5th, 7th and 13th Amendment cases, War Crimes cases specially the case of Quader Mollah, Delwar Hossain Saidee, Md. Kamaruzzaman, Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujahid, Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury etc. He is also now conducting the BDR Mutiny case before the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh wherein the trial court given death sentence to 152 accused and also the case of Constitutional 16th Amendment and Motiur Rahman Nizami which are now at the stage of hearning befotre the Hon’ble Court. By the time as a lawyer he made his mark in the country. He is married and blessed with one son, who is a journalist and one daughter who is a lawyer by profession. His wife is a very good painter. He has two grand children.
